Here Dixie, Dixie, Dixie…

Tomorrow, Monday March 17th marks a significant day in my journey with Ovarian Cancer. My hairdresser was recently diagnosed with cancer and she and I decided to mount a preemptive strike on our hair loss by removing it before it starts to fall out.

At 9:30am tomorrow morning a few town papers, The Hartford Courant, representation from The American Cancer Society, our Medical Massage Therapist and friends will gather at the salon for a before, during and after photo shoot of Linda and I going rouge!

I had to dig up Dixie Pixie (the name of the wig I wore six years ago) and found her in a box on the top shelf of my bedroom closet. She was a bit dusty and flat so I gave her a spa day, washing her, massaging each section of hair, drying her (almost scared Jeff have to death when he opened the shower door to find a hairy thing hanging on a rack on the shower floor) and then revitalized her with the special spray they gave me when I bought her.

In addition, I have beautiful new hats that were hand knitted by my neighbor Betty (I might wear the purple one after the shaving…so soft) and I ordered “Hair for Hats” which is really cool. It’s only the sides of a wig which would show under a hat so the top of your head doesn’t have to get so hot with a full wig. My first shot at ordering one proved to be too dark in color so I returned it for something lighter. Not sure when it will be in but I’m much more comfortable in a hat than a wig, so you’ll know when I have it!

Thank goodness I saved Dixie Pixie as I have a wedding and two graduations to attend this spring. She will come in handy.
