It’s back but not for long

So where to start? I had been cancer free for the past 6 years since my first bout with this disease and suddenly got the news that my cancer marker (CA125 which they monitor every three months) was going up. I’m one of the lucky Ovarian Cancer survivors that have a cancer marker they can test and if abnormal the doctors order a CT Scan, which they did in my case this January. Two small spots showed as a result of the scan and my surgical oncologist recommended surgery. This would be my 7th surgery in all from 2001 to now so I’m getting pretty good at the drill.

The surgery yielded a tumor the size of a Lacrosse ball (other spot was nothing) and they were able to do the procedure laparoscopically so I am feeling strong and ready for the next step. I will start chemotherapy this week and will once again lose this wonderful thick curly hair that’s already down to my knees. I’m kidding. I have short, thin, straight hair just like my wig, Dixie Pixie. My organs were clear as well as my lymph nodes so this is the best possible outcome for my situation. True to form, I am starting up my blog once again to share my perspective on this new journey and I hope you all follow my progress over the next several months. I always wanted to write a sequel to Laughing in the Face of Cancer, this one is called Laughing in the Face of Cancer…Again!

One more note I’d like to share. While I was going through testing in January, one of our golden retriever’s, Bree, had to have surgery on an infection she contracted. Here is a picture of the two of us sharing a laugh in the family room while recovering from our surgeries.
