If you’ve been reading the blog, then you know that my hair dresser (recently diagnosed with breast cancer) and I decided to take a pre-emptive strike and buzz our hair. It’s been three weeks and four treatments and I have not lost one small piece of hair. Every morning I wake up and look at my pillow for any sign of hair loss. Nothing.
I stopped in a couple of days ago to find out how my hair dresser was doing and she had had only two treatments and showed me that her hair was already thinning. I took off my baseball cap and showed her my buzz cut with no sign of hair loss or thinning.
She said, “wouldn’t it be funny if you didn’t lose your hair?” I said, “that would be awful, but I’ve had this chemo drug before and I lost my hair within three weeks. I’m not sure why it’s not starting to fall out.”
Yesterday I saw my surgical oncologist and we were joking about how I shaved my head proactively so I would avoid the big clumps of hair falling out. I told her I was surprised that I still had a full buzz cut and she said, “well not everyone loses their hair with Taxol (the drug I’m on)”. I said, “you mean I might have buzzed my hair and I might not lose it?”. She said, “yup”!
