It is Friday, August 29, 2014 and today marks my first full 7 days without entering Uconn for a blood test, a treatment or a doctor’s appointment. I completed my 18th and last treatment last Thursday, August 21st and left without much pomp or circumstance. I announced to my nurse that I did not want to return this week for a blood test knowing that my magnesium would be low and that I had no intentions of coming in for magnesium infusions. I told her and my doctors (of course I asked permission first but I wanted to sound like I was in control) that I could get my magnesium back up to my normal low level all by myself by eating bananas, quinoa, and spinach and of course by taking magnesium pills.
I have been religious about doing just that and about enjoying life. Jeff came back from Montana (he took Mathew out there for a fishing vacation and to move him into Montana State University) and announced that my daughter and I should go out there for parents weekend in October. Within minutes those flights were booked along with a hotel! You don’t have to ask me twice.
I am working on dieting and exercise so I can be strong for my golf trip to Florida in September, a weekend at Lake Winnipesaukee also in September and hiking in Montana in October. It sounds like I’m doing a lot of traveling and you’re right, I am making up for lost time.
My drum recital is next Friday evening for the 13 students I teach and I am so proud of the work each of them has put into their songs. It will be a very exciting night of music.
We have had two companies purchase books for cancer patients and the new company has great potential for getting the book in the hands of cancer patients throughout Connecticut and beyond. Very exciting!
